If you’ve ever had a skin tag, then you know how uncomfortable and unsightly they can be. While some may never have a skin tag in their life, others will have just one, and some individuals will feel like they are dealing with a never ending cycle of skin tags. While skin tags can, of course, be removed by a medical professional, many prefer to remove skin tags in the privacy of their own home. Home skin tag removal is less of an inconvenience than repeated visits to the Doctor, and is also less expensive.

Natural Skin Tag Removal

It’s advisable to visit a Doctor before removing any skin tag, as you will want ensure that it is indeed harmless, and not any kind of potentially medically hazardous growth.

There are some websites out there that will advocate tightly tying a piece of string or floss around the skin tag and then cutting if off (followed by a lot of antibacterial ointment I would hope). However, this does not seem like a very good option as using sharp objects to remove a skin tag should be left to trained medical professionals. And frankly, the idea simply makes this author far too squeamish. Secondly, the risk of infection would be higher with this method than other natural methods.

So how can you remove skin tags naturally? We have an article on removingmoles.org regarding using Castor oil as a mole removal agent – the truth is a similar technique can also be effective for getting rid of skin tags. Castor oil is mixed with baking soda to form a paste-like substance – it shouldn’t be runny, as a runny mixture would be an indication that you have used too much of the Castor oil and not enough baking soda.

Once you have mixed the two, the paste is applied twice daily onto the entire skin tag. It’s a good idea to apply the paste once in the morning and once again in the evening. The major drawback of this technique is that it takes about two weeks to work – first the skin tag will shrink and dry out, and then it will fall off.

If you have any allergies to Castor oil or baking soda, or suspect that you might, then you should not try this technique. It’s also advisable to talk to your Doctor and ring up any questions or concerns that you may have before trying any at home skin tag removal.

Retail Products

Are any of the retail products for getting rid of skin tags effective? While natural methods are inexpensive, they do have the draw back of being slow to work. There are a few retail products on the market that claim to eliminate skin tags. The truth is that some of these products are much more effective than others. The most effective product that we know of is DermaTend – which is a fast-acting product that has helped thousands to quickly and inexpensively remove their skin tags in the comfort of their own home.

Natural Mole Removal

Using natural ingredients is one of the safest methods of mole removal. There are many medicated creams and treatments you can buy and apply them at home. However there are other products that are said to work that are not medicines — but the question is do they really work? The truth is some do, and so don’t, and others work for some individuals and not other. An example of an effective at home mole removal treatment is apple cider vinegar. It works because of the acidity of the vinegar, however be careful to only apply it to the mole and not the surrounding skin because it can irritate the skin. Some people have observed that the treatment works where as others have said, although it works, the mole comes back a few weeks later.

Castor Oil to Remove Moles

Castor oil is another home method that may be used as well. You simply take a mixture of Castor oil and baking soda to make a gum like application and apply it for two or three nights and you will see the mole slowly start to disappear. This is a slow but effective method of do it yourself mole removal. You may find that your skin will get a bit irritated with this approach — if so you can choose to simply leave the mixture off for one night and apply the next. However if irritation continues you should discontinue use of this treatment. When effective, you will notice the mole disappearing little by little.

Some people will even use garlic to remove moles. Does this really work? Well some say it does. You simply need to rub garlic onto the mole for a few minutes you can even take a piece of the garlic all cut up and place it on the mole with a bandage and leave it there over night. After about two or three days you should start to notice that the mole is hardening and will eventually scab over.

No matter what method you use to remove a mole, be it Castor oil, garlic, or apple cider vinegar; be sure to always consult your doctor first to avoid any possibility that your mole could be cancerous. Just keep in mind your own well being before you worry about the money you could save by doing this yourself. If your mole is confirmed by a Doctor to be benign, then at home removal treatments may be right for you.

If you’re seeking solutions to remove skin moles at a cost that is affordable, you have several options. Thankfully, if you have a benign mole (as most of them are), that is simply a cosmetic nuisance and you are a good candidate for many of the, less expensive, at home mole removal techniques.

Of course, if you have a suspicious looking mole that shows signs of potential mutation, cost should not be first in mind, but promptly seeing a physician should. Your doctor will let you know if the mole is dangerous or not, and will be able to take appropriate action. Also, if you have any family members who have had skin cancer, then it is a good idea to schedule a doctor’s visit to discuss your personal risk as well as the cost of mole removal.

Surgery vs. Natural Mole Removal

For merely cosmetic mole removals, surgery is not always the best option. This is because surgery has a high chance of resulting in scarring, and the cost can also be quite high. No one expects surgical procedures to be inexpensive, and so if your insurance does not cover cosmetic mole removals, you may be left with a large bill to pay. Of course, if you are having a mole removed because your doctor is concerned about its potential for cancer, then your insurance should cover that.

Another method for removing moles is laser surgery, however this can also be quite an expensive option. Laser surgery works by targeting the pigment in the mole, lightening its color and minimizing its size. However, as it’s a specialized treatment, the cost can be quite high. Also, several treatments will likely to be needed before results are complete.

You can also ask your local pharmacist if they carry any over the counter mole removal products. These are generally not too expensive, but are not always effect and often rely on harsh chemicals to dissolve moles. There is also a chance that such products can leave scars behind.

Another choice in mole removal that is both quick and affordable is the cream DermaTend. The upside to this treatment is that is is also all-natural, and has a proven record of eliminating not only moles, but skin tags and warts as well. Results are often complete in just three days, so you’ll be able to enjoy your mole-free skin quickly.

It seems that just about everybody is trying to cut back on their spending these days and so it can be hard to justify luxury items such as optional skin care products. It can be even harder to justify days at the spa, or fancy facials – especially if your spouse is also cutting back. Thankfully though, this doesn’t mean that your skin has to suffer, as there are many at home skin care recipes that you can try out.

For thousands of years women have produced skin care treatments from common household items. Such mixtures can oftentimes be just as effective as treatments bought at the drugstore, but have the advantages of being much more economical as well as completely natural! It also is a logical choice, given that we nourish ourselves with vitamins and minerals through food, why not use the same premise on our skin?

Homemade Skin Care Recipes

One of the most popular treatments at any spa is a facial. These skin treatments can often cost up to one hundred dollars or more! While this is a great money-maker for the spa, the treatments themselves are not very expensive, therefore, it’s a poor deal for the consumer on a budget. Thankfully, you can easily do your own facials at home for much less money than a spa treatment.

Generally, a facial starts with the practitioner using a gentle cleanser to wipe away any dirt on the skin. Then, a warm towel is applied to open the pores and wipe away the cleanser.

At this point, it is common for a face mask to be applied – here are two easy masks to make at home. They are both good for any skin type.

Egg White Mask

This is a very easy mask – if you can crack an egg, then you can make it! Simple crack and separate one egg, disposing (or cooking something with the egg yolk). Beat the whites well until they look a bit foamy. Then, apply the egg white to your face, allowing it to dry. Once completely dry, remove with a damp (cold water) face cloth. Your skin will feel clean and rejuvenated!

Easy Oatmeal Mask

Oatmeal masks are very popular, as oatmeal has soothing properties that the skin enjoys. For this skin care recipe, you’ll need 1/4 cup of ground oatmeal (if your oatmeal is not ground, use a food processor to grind it), 1/4 cup of water and 1 teaspoon of honey. All ingredients should be well mixed together to form a paste. Then, apply the mixture evenly to the face and allow it to sit for ten minutes or until dry. Remove with a damp (cold water here also) facecloth.

Generally home-made facial masks should be applied to the face promptly after mixing, and left for ten to fifteen minutes to give the ingredients time to actively work on the skin. You should, of course, not use products made from ingredients that you may be allergic to.

Unfortunately the major drawback to home made beauty products is their short shelf life. These products are generally made from fresh, active ingredients and do not contain the preservatives needed to maintain freshness. Therefore, if the convenience of squeezing a tube to get your beauty product is high on your priority list, these choices will not be for you. However if you don’t mind spending a few minutes to whip up a fresh treatment each time, at home beauty recipes are a great choice.

Baking soda, also known by its chemical makeup sodium bicarbonate, has long been used in a variety of natural medicines. For example, it is known to have been utilized for cases of aspirin overdoses and related ulcers, as well as to treat skin irritations from poison oak and ivy, and is even still used today in many toothpaste products. For more cosmetic purposes, it is known as a good exfoliate for dead skin cell removal while being gentle on the surrounding area.

This last usage of being an exfoliating agent corresponds directly to its ability to remove skin tags as well! For highest effectiveness in getting rid of skin tags, baking soda is usually used mixed with other natural ingredients.

Skin Tag Treatment

Two approaches to using baking soda in the removal of skin tags is what will be covered here. One approach is as a mixture of paste using Castor oil. This oil has the quality of softening the tag and dissolving the skin tissue. In the meantime, the sodium bicarbonate is able to remove the dead skin cells and the tissue that the oil has dissolved.

The right sequence of treatment using this method is the initial application of Castor oil and soaking the area for several minutes. Subsequently the treated area is to be covered with the mixture and maintained untouched for a full 24 hours. By doing this process a couple of times a week for several weeks will typically take care of the skin tag removal.

The other approach is akin to the first but this time the paste is to be made using sour apple juice. The steps are to apply the juice directly on the skin tag followed by the paste for 24 hours. In this case, the proportions of baking soda and apple juice are important as this paste has the potential of irritating the skin if a large amount of soda is used. To prevent an uncomfortable surprise, it is always recommended to do several tests on unaffected areas.

For certain individuals, the latter treatment may require a more extended period to show its effectiveness. You can try both to really figure out what is the ideal remedy for your skin. Keep in mind though that the baking soda on its own is not very likely to do the job, so the mixture is recommended.

Effectiveness

Do note that baking soda has the potential of not being effective in all cases. However, there is no need to rush to the doctor as a result, as you may still try the sour apple juice or Castor oil individually without the sodium bicarbonate. There are also additional home based treatments you could give a try, such as using dandelion root, onion juice, cumin, cauliflower, or tea tree oil.

Medicines from your local pharmacy are also available of course, and some solely contain natural ingredients. It is therefore important to decide on which medication to take based on your knowledge and familiarity with the ingredients, as some of these medicines may result in irritation of the skin or even result in scarring.

Once you have tried all of the above for skin tag removal, seeing a doctor is advised. The medical interventions that the doctor may choose include: cryotherapy (freezing), cauterization (burning), or surgical excision with the help of a scalpel. Do be aware that the side effects that may accompany these treatments are relatively painful, higher risk of infection, skin irritation, and scar tissue development.

The application of castor oil for therapeutic purposes dates back numerous centuries. This oil is a member of an exclusive list of substances used by naturopathic medicine providers that are also authorized for treatment by the United States Food and Drug Administration(FDA). The FDA has approved of castor oil to be used mainly as a laxative, but holistic practitioners have found a myriad of applications that have proven effective over the years.

The most potent use for Castor oil has been demonstrated with various skin conditions, including: boils, rashes, wounds, burns, and skin tags. Although the mechanism of action for this oil still remains unknown, it is clear that it infiltrates the skin quickly and has a profound soaking effect. Castor oil is composed of succinic and isostearic acids, which are known to be excellent skin conditioners and are often utilized in hand creams and shampoos. For skin tag removal, castor oil is arguably the most popular natural therapy.

Treatment with Castor Oil

The application of castor oil in the treatment of skin tags is quite easy. All that is required is but a few drops to cover the tag, twice or three times a day. After a few minutes have passed and the oil is fully soaked, the target location can be wiped down. It is important to use care when cleaning the area as the oil causes considerable softening of the skin. Otherwise, rough treatment may result in a partial removal of the skin tag and a subsequent bleeding. Patting down of the area is the best approach.

This type of remedy typically starts to demonstrate a good outcome in two to three days, and the final removal of the skin tag is accomplished in a matter of weeks. In some cases, the changes are very slow and, therefore, not observable until the tag disappears completely. This is caused at times due to the appearance of a somewhat inflamed, red bulge in the location of where the tag used to be. This bumpy area will return to normal in a few days, so there is no cause for concern.

Possible Allergic Reaction

Due to the strength of the Castor oil and how deep it reaches within the skin, there is a certain risk potential for the target area to become hypersensitised and allergic reaction to form. For individuals who haven’t tried Castor oil, it is recommended to do a patch test on an area other than the skin tag prior to applying it for therapeutic use.

For the test, place a few drops on a location that has no skin tags and after a few hours look for a redness or rash. If nothing is observable, your skin tissue is likely to not develop an allergy. However, it you do see the typical allergic signs, try a different home treatment.

If Castor Oil Doesn’t Work

It is possible that the Castor oil will not work for everyone. For those who have tried administering the oil onto the skin tag area for a period of longer than 3 weeks and no change is observed, it’s time to try another home remedy. There are plenty of other options to choose from, including: sour apple, dandelion root, and baking soda. Since there are a variety of choices to pick from, odds are that the right remedy will be found. Even if none work, the option of getting an over the counter medicine is also available to you.

The last resort, and not a bad one of course, is to see a doctor. The medical approaches used by a physician are more technical and there is a downside of experiencing some short term pain as well as having scars develop. For cases where the skin tags show up again after they’ve been removed with a home treatment, going to the physician’s office is essential. The treatment at the clinic is likely to be done by either cutting the mole with a scalpel, freezing, or cauterization using an electric needle.

We all know that being overweight is unhealthy, as it results in various physical afflictions that are not easy to live with. However, did you know that one side effect of having excess weight is the development of skin tags? Although skin tags are generally benign and are seen usually as a cosmetic problem, research indicates that being overweight results in a higher likelihood of having them and, therefore, produces another incentive to not become overweight.

Excessive Weight and Skin Friction

Scientific data shows that a plausible result of skin tags is from friction caused by the irritated skin. In these instances, the body may be over-compensating by producing a faster than normal development of skin cells. Such cells will spread up and out due to the rubbing skin, resulting in the typical looking tag.

Such observations do bring to light the reason why obese patients are likely to have skin tags, especially in their underarms, groin , and under the breasts. These body areas have large sections of skin that rub against each other every single day.

Calluses vs. Skin Tags

The rubbing of skin is a determinant in large individuals, but it does raise the question of how come it is tags that form, not calluses. The reason could be associated with the friction type that is being experienced. Calluses usually form on an area that has undergone some injury, as exhibited by a tennis player’s hands or a dancer’s feet.

When it comes to skin friction and being overweight, the resulting stalk-like skin tag arises from a more stepwise progress that is of a low impact nature. It is also noteworthy that the base of a skin tag is made up of fatty tissue plus skin cells, wheras calluses are essentially just comprised of the latter.

Living with Skin Tags and the Extra Weight

For a majority of people, being somewhat over weight is normal, at a value of up to 30lb. If a person notices skin tags and associates them with the weight gain, they are more likely to wish for them to be gone. However, overweight and obese people do not necessarily see it the same way.

For individuals having a significant weight gain problem there is the related low self esteem and limited long term goals, therefore, living healthy and looking good are not typically focused on. At most stages of being overweight, individuals often hold the belief that the weight loss will not be achievable and there is no point in making a full effort. This naturally prolongs the weight gain and the skin tag issue as well.

Tags that grow on the neck or face of such individuals can be quite disheartening, which contributes to the negative outlook. This often times continues on for a long period and can really wreck the self respect of individuals.

Treatment Options

Since treatment of skin tags is readily available, there isn’t a good reason for why they should remain. Various, all-natural home treatments and over-the-counter solutions are within reach, and are likely to resolve the issue of skin tags. Using such therapies is effective and safe and can eliminate the not so pretty protrusions without irritation or scar tissue development.

When a natural remedy is not effective, visiting a doctor to learn about other options is advisable. Medical interventions include cauterization(burning), a chemical approach, cryotheraphy(freezing), or cutting out by excision. The patient has to be mindful of the risks, such as the potential for skin irritation and scar formation.

Of Course, if a person has any doubt whether a skin tag is benign or more harmful, contact your doctor. A sample of the tag is then likely to be removed and sent to the medical lab for microscopic examination.

For those who want to try a natural mole removal treatment, there is a vast array of options available. Here on removingmoles.org, we’ve already covered many natural choices such as Dandelion root, baking soda, onion juice, and Castor oil. Today we will explore the use of sour apple juice as used in mole removal.

Before any natural treatment is started, it is important to remember that these treatments are only applicable to harmless benign moles. It is always advisable to meet with a Doctor before any mole removal decision, in order to be sure that your mole doesn’t display any signs of being atypical, such as an uneven shape or color, a large size, or changes of any kind.

The advantages to natural treatments, such as sour apple juice, is that they are not only extremely inexpensive, but compared to surgical procedures are much less likely to leave any markings behind. Sour apples can be bought at most grocery stores, and in some cases you may be able to find the juice already pre-made. Of course, it would need to be one hundred percent pure sour apple juice. Also of note is that if you are preparing your own sour apple juice that it will need to either be used or sealed right away. Exposure to air will lessen the effectiveness of the sour apple juice.

How Does It Work

The application process is very simple and straightforward. Simply use a bit of cotton swab to spread the juice over the mole, carefully avoiding the skin surrounding it. Ensure that the mole is sufficiently covered and do not pat dry. This will need to be done twice a day (morning and night) for at least a couple of weeks before results are evident.

How Effective Is Sour Apple Juice At Removing Moles

Unfortunately, while sour apple juice can be an effective treatment, this is is not always the case. Like many other natural treatments, sour apple juice will not work for all skin types or all moles. However, while the acidity of the apple is enough for many moles to respond to (by shrinking until they eventually disappear), this is one of the natural choices that can take the most time. It may be three weeks or longer until you see significant results. If you are not seeing any results after ten days, you may wish to try another method.

Skin tags, medically referred to as acrochordon, are minor extrusions of skin that can appear anywhere on the body. Although pain is rarely associated with such tags, they may get irritated when rubbing against clothes or nearby skin areas. They are also not associated with malignant growths or an infection. The typical reason most people seek to remove skin tags is due to cosmetic reasons. Several techniques are available for getting rid of skin tags, ranging from natural home remedies, to ointments and creams, and culminating in surgical procedures.

Common Surgical Techniques

For those individuals who would like to get the fastest outcome possible, surgery is needed. The steps required include seeing a doctor for initial diagnosis, followed later on by the actual excision. The treatment itself usually lasts only a short amount of time and occasionally without any use of anesthesia, local or general, so no inpatient stay is necessary.

During surgery, the doctor will use sterile instruments such as hospital scissors or scalpel and remove the skin tag from the rest of the body at the thinnest place of attachment. This only takes a mere seconds and, due to such a small cut, pain management is usually not a factor. Side effects to consider with this technique are bleeding and scar development if the skin tag is hard to remove.

Another approach is by freezing the tag with the help of liquid nitrogen. Precise handling is a must as the extremely cold gas may harm healthy skin cells in the surrounding tissue. A trained physician is clearly needed and, when done correctly, it is a quick and painless removal method. This type of treatment is somewhat costly and requires at least a couple of hours of your time for travel to the clinic or hospital and all the related procedural tasks while awaiting the treatment.

Natural Methods for Getting Rid of Skin Tags

A variety of home remedies and natural ingredients are available for skin tag removal. One such approach is to combine baking soda with Castor oil. The resulting paste is then to be placed on the tag and covered with a band aid for 2-3 times a day and for a duration of several weeks. This procedure will cause the drying up of the treated skin and the tag will fall off.

Clearly the benefit of such an approach is that the ingredients are basic, inexpensive, easily purchased and no side effects are observed. If there is no immediate need to remove the tag using surgery, it is could be preferable to try a natural approach of skin tag removal. The natural method will take longer than medical intervention, but it will also be significantly more affordable.

Another method used by some is with the help of tea tree oil. This approach involves adding a few drops of the oil to the acrochordon (twice daily), and the result is similar to the Castor oil treatment of causing the skin to dry up and drop off. The added benefit of tea tree oil is that it will act as an antiseptic and help you to maintain a healthy skin and avoid infection.

There are countless home remedies available for at home skin tag and mole removal, and the truth is, some of them work while some of them don’t. Among the most popular remedies that seem to actually work is onion juice. You may have heard of onion juice being used to remove skin tags and thought to yourself that it’s just an old wives’ tale. However, for many individuals, onion juice will indeed remove their skin tag, however it needs to be applied consistently for this to be the case.

The premise is that onion juice is very potent and acidic, and those properties help it to remove those unwanted extra pieces of flesh from the skin. We’ve all smelt how powerful raw onions are, and most of us have even been made to weep by them, so it makes sense that they could be strong enough to remove a skin tag, doesn’t it?

Making Onion Juice

You may have juiced an orange, an apple, or even a carrot in your life, but odds are you’ve never juiced an onion! Thankfully, it’s not exactly rocket science! Juicing an onion will require an adept juicing machine that can tackle tougher foods. Simply position the onion into the juicer and capture the juice. You will only need to use one onion, as the amount used for skin tag removal is very small. If you don’t have a juicer, you may be able to find 100 percent onion juice at a local health store.

Notably, the onion juice needs to be fresh or very well preserved to be effective. When exposed to water it starts to lose its efficacy very quickly. For this reason, it’s important to make a fresh batch of onion juice every day if you are making it yourself at home.

Application of Onion Juice

The application itself should only be done after the skin is cleansed and then thoroughly dried. Also, you will not want to try this treatment if there is broken skin in the area, as doing so could be quite painful.

Once the skin tag and the surrounding area is both clean and dry, then you would want to, sparingly, apply the onion juice to the skin tag, carefully avoiding the surrounding skin. You can use a bit of cotton or gauze for the application, taking care to achieve full coverage. Keep in mind that this is onion being used after all, so you (and others) may not exactly love the odor after the application. Also, sensitive areas, such as around the eyes should not be treated with this method.

Application should be done twice a day, generally once in the morning and again before bed. It can take several applications to see full results, but if you fail to see any good outcome within a week, then this method is unlikely to work for your skin tag. Also it’s important not to miss any days as this can greatly prolongs the removal time.

Alternative Methods

Just because this method is often tried for skin tag removal, it doesn’t mean it always works. For those with particularly stubborn skin tags, onion juice may simply not be strong enough to do the trick. However, this doesn’t indicate that your tag can’t be removed, only that you will need to try another method. There are many natural treatments discussed on this site, and you may wish to try several of them. However, if you are wanting to remove your tag quickly, it is generally best to either have it removed by a doctor, or to use a fast acting cream like DermaTend.

DermaTend is a natural cream that will remove your skin tag in mere days, and is therefore very popular with consumers. It also doesn’t tend to leave behind long-term skin markings. However, those wanting the absolute fastest removal will probably seek out a doctor. Removal treatments used by physicians include cauterization, cryotherapy, and traditional skin tag removal surgery. The disadvantages of surgical treatments are that scarring can be left behind, and the cost can often be prohibitive.
