In the past almost all cosmetic mole removals were done surgically, often creating a large amount of stress for the patient – and also quite often leaving behind an unsightly scar.
Mole removal surgery is certainly an important option, especially if there is any reason to suspect that the mole may be a health danger. However, for merely cosmetic mole removals we now know that there are quite a few effective natural remedies.
However, for those with suspicious moles, or those simply preferring the quick effectiveness of mole removal surgery, it’s good to know that at least when it comes to very small moles, depending on a number of factors including the skill and experience of your Doctor, scarring left behind may now be more minimal than it once was.
Laser Mole Removal
In the last couple of decades we have seen the advancement of lasers to treat a wide variety of conditions, including varicose veins, unsightly body hair, and of course laser vision correction. Lasers are also being used to treat cosmetically unattractive moles.
Laser mole removal should be done by a certified professional – it’s best to ask your Dermatologist if this is a service he or she offers, or if he or she can refer you. Of course, your Doctor or Dermatologist should also inspect the mole first, to be sure that it is not of the dangerous variety that can be cancerous.
The pros of laser treatment are that there is almost no risk of scarring, and that it is less invasive than surgery. This makes it a particularly good option for facial moles. However, it’s important to note that laser treatment is best for flat moles, as the laser does not penetrate deeply enough to be effective on large or very thick moles. Also, while the laser will shrink and discolor the mole, it may not remove it completely.
Another draw back to laser treatment is that this procedure can be expensive, and most patients will likely require a series of laser sessions.
At Home Options
There are a variety of natural mole removal techniques available, many of which are covered in detail throughout the removingmoles.org website. While the ingredients are often different such as onion juice, dandelion root, apple cider vinegar, baking soda and others, the application is generally quite similar. Application often involves dabbing a small amount of the key ingredient directly onto the mole several times a day for weeks at a time. When effective, the mole becomes smaller until it is eliminated.
The advantages to natural methods are that they are very inexpensive and are unlikely to leave scarring behind.
Commercial Products
There is a small variety of commercial mole treatments on the market, some of which are much more effective than others. While these products are generally more expensive than natural methods, they do tend to work faster (the ones that work at least). We recommend checking out DermaTend, as it has a proven track record of effectiveness in cosmetic mole removal.
